Me in North Beach, San Francisco, 2011

I grew up in the suburbs of Sonoma County, an hour north of San Francisco. My main childhood interests were art, computers (a little BASIC even), bmx and skateboarding. Hobbies came and went, but I kept on drawing throughout high school and beyond.

After high school, I studied art at San Francisco State University, getting a more formal foundation in art. I was determined to be a great painter, but then one semester I took a course in “New Media Art.” There, we learned how to use HTML, Flash, Photoshop and more. I was hooked from the start and wanted to learn more.

I graduated in 2001 with a B.A. in Art (Studio Art concentration, Painting & Drawing emphasis), but I jumped right back into class, earning a certificate in interactive media soon thereafter. Before I knew it, I was working in the industry full-time. Maybe because of my early interest in programming, I naturally gravitated towards the dev side of things, settling into a perfect hybrid niche as a Web front-end developer (HTML+JavaScript mostly, a bit of Flash still).

Writing code was (and is) fun and rewarding, but I still had the artistic itch. Recently, I started making art again but this time around with many of the digital skills I’d picked up. I’m playing with vector art, 3d art and even code/data as art. I’m still in the experimental stage on this one. Stay tuned to this site for my progress and new artwork.
